California Golden Poppy

One of my two favorite flowers is the Golden Poppy, the state flower of my home state, California.

It is illegal to pick the flower when it is growing wild, but I didn't understand the "growing wild" distinction as a young boy and I can still remember when I was about 5 we planted the golden poppy in our flower bed at home. When they grew I was afraid that if I picked one the police would roll up and take me straight to jail
